Local Lodge 1502's First annual awards
banquet a success!
By Joe DeRosia, June 23, 2008
|
Local Lodge 1502 held it's first
annual member years of service awards banquet on
March 12, 2008. Members are eligible for awards at
15 consecutive years of service and then every five
years thereafter. Their were 76 members eligible for
awards this year, with 50 award recipients and
guests attending the banquet this year. Members
attending ranged from 15 to 67 years of service.
Thank you to each and every member for your hard
work and dedication.
Quote from
Joe DeRosia:
"Your hard work has helped so
many people, but is recognized by so few. Our
employers don't always recognize us, but our union
will. Whether it's keeping our cars on the road to
get our families home safely, repairing the ships
that leave our shores, or fabricating parts for the
people who protect them, each and every one of you
helps keep America rolling. Thank you. Thank you to
our retirees, for passing on your skills and paving
the way for a new generation of workers. Without
you, we would not be able to succeed. You have all
shown a great ability to learn and adapt to the ever
changing demands of tomorrows workplace. Although we
are facing a troubled economy and outrageous
healthcare costs, history has proven the Machinists
union will stand strong. It will stand strong
because of all of you. Thank you."

Under
Assault!
By Joe DeRosia,
March 5, 2008
Several union members,
including several members of IAM Local 1502,
joined together today to support the Superior
Typographical Union No. 163/CWA 14551 by taking
part in an informational picket at the Superior
Daily Telegram building located on Ogden Ave. in
Superior. The Superior Typographical union
members are under attack from The Forum
Communications Company which recently purchased
the Superior Daily Telegram. The Company is
trying to institute a second tier of wages,
place all employees on a merit pay system,
reduce the number of weeks of vacation,
eliminate vacation pay bonuses, take away
pension contributions, cut the number of paid
holidays, compromise seniority, and schedule up
to ten hour days. This company wants to take
away over 100 years of gains in union contracts
negotiated with several fair
employers. We will not and can not stand for
this. How Can you Help? Call 715-394-4411 and
tell the Telegram to treat their employees
FAIRLY!
